Handover is the stage at which completed work is reviewed together and its transfer is recorded. The agreed scope, outstanding items and available documentation are important reference points. Its further significance depends on the agreement and the particular circumstances.
How this term relates to your project
Prepare for the review with the quotation, drawings and recorded variations. Check the work by element so a prominent detail does not distract from less visible commitments. Include operation, maintenance access and the documents supplied with building services. Describe each outstanding item so it can be identified later: the location, what was observed and the agreed next action.
Photographs can support that record. Keep incomplete agreed work separate from new preferences that were not part of the original scope. Establish who follows up and how completion will be reported. An orderly handover file remains useful afterwards for maintenance, future alterations and questions about concealed service routes or the specific products installed in the building.
