A work specification describes the proposed work, materials and execution requirements in writing. It clarifies the intended result alongside drawings. Its content varies by project; calling a document a specification does not establish that every necessary detail is included.

For a home renovation, a clear written scope helps answer what will be delivered and how the separate parts connect. For example, state whether new glazing includes its junctions, making good the reveals and decoration. A product list alone can leave those boundaries unresolved. Check that the specification references the correct drawings and that contradictory information has been reconciled.
A written floor build-up may not fit the space shown in a section. Distinguish final selections from allowances and matters requiring further assessment. A useful specification then supports more than price comparison: it provides a common reference when a change is discussed and when completed work is reviewed at handover.
