A crawl space is an area beneath the ground floor that may form part of the house’s construction. Access, clearance, ground conditions and services vary. The term does not establish that the space is dry, safe or practically accessible.

An extension may affect existing access or ventilation beneath the original floor. Record known inspection hatches and service routes. Assess which components must remain reachable and how new floors connect. Moisture or standing water can have different causes; one observation is not a diagnosis.
Do not enter an unfamiliar void based on general website instructions. Discuss necessary inspection with the relevant contractor. Include the existing conditions in the project records so the concealed area is not overlooked while attention focuses on the new room and finish.
