Timber-frame construction uses a timber framework as part of the load-carrying assembly. Sheathing, insulation and other layers contribute the component’s remaining properties. Elements may be manufactured beforehand or assembled on site.
How this term relates to your project
The term does not automatically identify external finishes or supplied insulation. Request complete wall, floor and roof assemblies and the boundaries of the offer. An extension needs developed junctions with the original house and appropriate protection during construction. Consider penetrations, airtightness and moisture behaviour within the selected system.
Compare timber framing with other methods using the same usable room and finishes. Statements about the main material alone do not make quotations equivalent. Include provisions for heavy fixed fittings in the design so necessary support is considered before walls are closed. Retain the system details rather than relying only on the name of the construction method.
